Studying for your first university degree? Our Banking Connections insight program offers a shorter, broader view of our businesses. Rather than being placed in a specific team, you’ll enjoy a tailored program that will help you develop new skills and learn enough about our different opportunities to apply for an internship.
Summer internships typically last 10-12 weeks and attract students in their penultimate year of university who want to start working full-time the following year. They’re our primary source of hiring for our full-time graduate programs and a great way to get a taste of what it’ll be like – as well as hone your skills through structured performance evaluations, training, development and social opportunities.
We also offer fixed-term placements such as industrial placements/attachments throughout the year that vary in length depending on business need.
If you have a background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), you may naturally be gravitating towards one of our tech roles. But did you know we welcome STEM candidates across our banking programmes, too?

Global Investment Banking
Investment Banking is part of a team responsible for structuring and underwriting equity and debt transactions that help large corporate and government clients grow.
Working at the centre of the world’s debt and equity markets, the Global Markets team provides sales and trading services, liquidity, hedging strategies, analytics and pricing to more than 9,000 institutional clients.
One of the world’s most respected research organizations, the Global Research team provides market insights, research, global trading and financing that helps investors and asset managers achieve their goals.
Candidates are required to make an online application via the Bank of America Merrill Lynch application system. Online applications for most of our Analyst programs comprise of two stages, both must be completed by the application deadline for you to be considered. Stage 1 of your application requires the submission of your personal details, work experience etc. and competency questions followed by stage 2, where you will be required to complete a situational judgement test. The online test must be completed in one sitting.
If you are successful in being selected for the first round of interviews, these will typically consist of one or more competency-based interviews over the phone. The final round of the assessment process will vary slightly for each business, but will include face-to-face interviews. Some instances will include a group component or presentation exercise. Further details regarding your final stage assessment will be communicated as you progress.
For our Associate level – MBA programs applications are made online. Please attach your resume and cover letter, and ensure you apply under the name of the educational institution you are currently attending. Applications for our Associate level programs do not include an online assessment. Your first and second round interviews will take place by phone, on campus or at a Bank of America Merrill Lynch office.
The recruiting process varies depending on the program, location and division of your interest. We encourage you to refer to specific job descriptions for further details and confirmation of deadline dates. The recruiting process for these roles typically takes place from August to January for full time positions and from August to February for summer internship recruiting (depending on program of interest). Summer internships usually run for 10 weeks between June and August with full time new hires starting in the summer.
The recruitment timeline for Australia typically takes place from March to April for full time positions and from March to August for summer internships. Summer internships usually run for 11 weeks between November and February with full time new hires starting in January.
Industrial attachment recruiting takes place at various times depending on business needs and the program typically runs for six months from January to June or July to December.

What does a typical day look like for you?
There is no typical day in the Regional Corporate Sales team and that is what excites me most about my job! Some days are spent meeting clients and learning more about how we can value-add to them. Other days are spent strategizing and preparing decks and proposals for a client pitch. There are also times where I attend internal learning sessions on new product launches, organize bank events for our clients, and conduct comprehensive company and industry research, amongst many other activities.
How do you describe the culture at the bank?
One of the best things about the bank is that everyone is extremely open and inclusive. Juniors and interns are encouraged to interact with senior management regularly, and all opinions and ideas are valued across all levels of the bank.
I believe that this is a great firm to not only begin your career, but also a place to continue developing your career.
What do you enjoy doing in your personal time?
I love traveling. Exploring new cities, being exposed to different cultures, and meeting people from various backgrounds excite me. I am passionate about food, and am a self-professed food blogger. I believe that my interests will allow me to excel in a global organization like Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I see myself being a full-fledged Regional Treasury Sales Officer holding a portfolio of clients across various industries in Bank of America Merrill Lynch. I believe that this is a great firm to not only begin your career, but also a place to continue developing your career.

What persuaded you to work for Bank of America?
What really set Bank of America apart from other firms was its diverse culture. Having gone through the technology internship program, I experienced firsthand the diverse and inclusive culture that the company has in place. Employees at the bank come from different countries, races and walks of life, and each bring fresh perspectives to the team. In a group setting, all ideas are valued equally and exchanged freely, creating a conducive environment for innovation and growth. This enriches my work experience greatly by giving me exposure to diverse talents and opportunities.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Among the many benefits of working at the bank (such as the great people, culture and work life balance), the one I appreciate the most is the high level of challenge and excitement in my work.
I face different issues and obstacles every day. Formulating effective solutions to these problems requires critical thinking, flexibility, and interpersonal skills. This keeps me on my toes and forces me to stay sharp.

What skills are important for a technical analyst in operations team?
Good logical thinking and some technical and financial knowledge are useful. I think a good attitude and willingness to learn are important too.
What do you enjoy doing in your personal time?
I like running and dancing. I run weekly with my colleagues after work and sometimes attend salsa classes on weekends.
In one word, how would you describe Bank of America?
What advice would you give to students?
Firstly, don’t be scared if you currently lack direction. Have the courage to grab and learn from every opportunity either in school or work. Secondly, keep your mind open to all roles because each of them contributes to your experience and exposure. Lastly, networking is essential to build relationships and help you gain exposure to different perspectives.

What are the requirements to be considered for campus opportunities?
Each program has individual requirements. However, to be considered for any program, you must be currently enrolled in a college/university or advanced degree program. If you are not currently enrolled, you can visit bankofamerica.com/careers for current experienced hire opportunities.
When do internships take place?
Summer internships usually run for 10 weeks between June and August for most locations within Asia Pacific.
Can I defer an offer?
No, Bank of America does not offer you the chance to defer.
Do I need coding skills to join your Global Technology team?
Not necessarily. We also welcome students from other majors to join our infrastructure and cybersecurity teams
If I applied last year, can I apply again this year?
Yes, you may submit two applications per year in APAC. If you are declined for the summer program, you can reapply for the full-time program the following year.
When will I hear from the bank following submission of my application?
We receive a very high volume of applications and endeavor to contact candidates as soon as possible once a decision has been made. You may receive a notification by email or one of our recruiters will contact you to update you on your application. At any point during the process you can log into your account and view the status of your application. Please be aware that email notifications sent from our application system may sometimes go straight to spam folders.
