In Partnership with The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), BNP Paribas have jointly launched the Banking Talent Programme to nurture fresh talents for the industry and provide participants with an opportunity to better prepare for future careers in the banking sector.  

The Programme targets fresh year 2021 undergraduates from universities in or outside Hong Kong who will be offered six-month work opportunities and industry-specific training. 

Programme Period - 1 September 2021 – 28 February 2022. 

Programme Eligible Applicant: 

Students graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2021 from universities in or outside Hong Kong and who are Hong Kong residents lawfully employable in Hong Kong.  

Position Purpose: 

The Front Office Conduct Surveillance (FOCS) team was formed in 2016 as an outcome of the FX remediation plan, aligning with FCA and other regulators requirements to enhance first line of defense. ("1LOD") controls and become is a key aspect of our Tier One Corporate and Investment Banking Client’s conduct framework. The objective of the FOCS team is to perform conduct risk surveillance targeting intra-day review or T+1 analysis, complementing Compliance ex-post surveillance. FOCS activities are focused on both transaction information and electronic communications (e-comms) surveillance for acceptable business practices and market conduct as outlined and defined in the respective Global Business Lines (GBL)'s Principles and Guidelines. 

The APAC team is made up of 8 experienced persons (most of them ex-Traders - ex-Sales), based in Hong Kong, Singapore & Tokyo. 

What You Will Do

Primary objective will be to assist the team in building the Surveillance tools or helping the team by analyzing Surveillance and perform study on how to make them more relevant. Some prototypes have been built in VBA & Python already and need to be further improved. Specifications will be provided by the experts in the team however, we expect the candidate to share feedback and not be afraid to make constructive proposal. 

Depending on the Team priorities, candidate may also be assigned side project to help the team in their day-to-day duties. 

Required Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong knowledge in VBA programming.
  • Knowledge of SQL and Python would be a nice to have.
  • Basic understanding of IT project lifecycle stages.
  • English proficiency is mandatory, knowledge in other Asian language would be a plus.
  • Ability to manage conflicting requests on time in a continually fast-moving environment and operating in a global team.
  • Ability to work and find solution independently.
  • Must be a self-starter with attention to detail and good communications (written and oral) skills.
  • Able to think out of the box and propose new ideas or solutions.
