Our Divisions
HKEX
The HKEX Management Trainee Programme offers four to five department attachments across a wide variety of business segments. To find out more on what it’s like to work in different divisions, please refer to the descriptions below.
Listing and Regulatory Affairs
The Listing and Regulatory Affairs Division is responsible for overseeing the listing function and all other regulatory, legal and compliance functions across HKEX, including the Compliance and Regulations Division of LME. This includes performing HKEX’s function as the frontline regulator of listed companies in Hong Kong, including vetting of IPO candidates and monitoring issuers’ post-listing compliance. It is organised into Listing, Legal Services, Regulatory Compliance and Secretarial Services.
Market Development
The Market Development Division is responsible for developing new revenue and product initiatives in both the international and Mainland markets across all asset classes.
Markets
The Markets Division is responsible for serving and recruiting exchange participants and structured product issuers along with business development of cash and derivatives markets and products along with monitoring the trading activities of the same. It is also responsible for market information products. It is organized into Cash Trading, Derivatives Trading, Market Data and Market Surveillance & Monitoring.
Clearing
The Clearing Division is responsible for the operations and business development of the clearing and risk management functions of the HKEX Group. It is organised into Cash & Derivatives Clearing, OTC Clear, and Clearing Risk Management.
Finance
The Finance Division comprises Financial Control and Treasury. Financial Control is responsible for the Group’s budgeting, forecasting and business performance analysis, internal management and external financial reporting, project financial control, and tax planning and compliance. Treasury is responsible for the Group’s liquidity management, portfolio investment, financial risk hedging as well as external banking relationship management.
Group Strategy
Group Strategy is responsible for developing, incubating and overseeing the delivery of key strategic initiatives across the Group. The team works hand-in-hand with HKEX Group’s operating teams across a spectrum of initiatives which include product and platform development, strategic market-facing projects, collaboration with other exchanges and industry players, and expansion into complementary and new lines of business.
Our Management Trainee Programme
HKEX
The HKEX Management Trainee Programme has the goal of nurturing bright and young talent and grooming them into future leaders. The Programme is an intensive development programme combining interactive learning, personal and group coaching and senior management exposure with on-the-job training. As a result, Trainees develop a spectrum of experience, an open mind and a broad understanding of different aspects of HKEX's business and management.
CLASSROOM TRAINING
MTs will go through intensive training with the goal of nurturing their leadership skills, teamwork abilities, professional knowledge and soft skills. Highlights of the training include leadership challenges, skills for Management Trainees, presentations, and many more. Ongoing training will continue to be offered over the 28 month programme.
DEPARTMENTAL FAMILIARISATION
MTs will go through one month of departmental familiarisation covering all divisions in HKEX, from Listing and Markets to Commodities and Internal Audit. MTs will attend sharing sessions by senior staff from each department and go through on-the-job training to experience what it is like to work in a particular department for a day.
DEPARTMENT ATTACHMENT
During the programme, MTs will work in four to five different departments from different divisions that will provide hands-on experience for MTs to understand HKEX's business and operations. It will also create opportunities for MTs to better understand their strengths, career aspirations and build internal networks through exposure during the department attachments.
What Else?
Strong Support - MT Managers and staff from each division will provide guidance and coaching to MTs to facilitate their learning.
Regular Training – MTs will be provided with additional training throughout the Programme to equip them with the skills required for their daily work and personal development.
Social Activities – MTs will interact regularly with senior management and other staff in social activities outside of work.
What's Next?
Upon completion of the 28-month Programme, MTs will then be able to pick a department based on their preferences and strengths, subject to their performance and HKEX's business needs.
The ultimate end-goal of the Programme is to develop MTs into our senior management with the important responsibility to run one of our core businesses in the future.
Our Summer Internship Programme
HKEX
The HKEX Summer Internship Programme offers university students an opportunity to learn about the business and services of HKEX, gain valuable insight into the workings of the financial markets while developing practical on-the job experience in its operations. It also provides students with an opportunity to consider the financial services industry as a potential career and help students decide where their future career interest lies.

Q: When does the programme start?
A: The programme starts in June and continues through August.
Q: How long are the internships?
A: The maximum employment period for each intern is 8 weeks.
Q: Which disciplines do you accept applications from?
A: We accept applications from all disciplines and background as long as the students have a genuine interest in our field and a passion for the financial industry.
Q: What will I be doing?
A: Depending on the background and the interests of the students, and subject to the requirements of different departments, the students will be arranged to work in relevant departments that have projects and special work assignments for them. The type of work may include policy research, financial data and statistical analysis, information management, data input, programming, drafting, reporting, system support as well as some administrative and clerical duties.
Q: Can I rotate to different departments?
A: The programme is non-rotational; each intern will be assigned to work with HKEX staff members on a specific project or other work assignments in one department.
