Retail Banking and Wealth Management Digital Graduate Programme
Last year I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Finance, and I knew I wanted to go into a career in the financial industry. However, when looking at the graduate programmes on offer at HSBC I was most excited by the Digital programme and the opportunities it provided. The RBWM Digital placement felt like a real opportunity to join a team that are making banking easier for our customers globally.

My first rotation was supporting our customer-facing employees in branches. One of the roles was to ensure digital solutions were fully implemented in branches. We held workshops that focused on how the latest digital products work and how they help support our customers. My second rotation was in the Mobile Product team, where I was engaged in helping the Singapore credit card mobile app delivery. It was the first ever mobile app for HSBC Retail Banking of this nature from a digital perspective and the first to be delivered in Singapore. It was really exciting to be part of something new.
It’s a fast-paced culture where everything evolves very quickly. For that reason, we work in a dynamic way to maintain momentum and to ensure we are constantly delivering an improved customer experience across our markets.
The advice I would have liked to have been given when I was applying for the programme is to make the most of every opportunity to build connections with people at HSBC. Also, always stay open, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. At HSBC, the company culture encourages collaboration and learning, so if you are inquisitive by nature you will definitely fit in!
