About Investec
The three-year Investec CA Programme enables you to develop the financial skills required to qualify as a Chartered Accountant and the professional skills to excel as a business leader.
Who we are
Our recognition as a distinctive specialist bank and asset manager is grounded in our entrepreneurial culture, balanced by a strong risk management discipline, client centric approach and the ability to be nimble, flexible and innovative.
What this means for you
Our products and services ensure that you’ll gain experience in key areas of financial management. The way we operate will give you invaluable insight into critical business processes like product innovation, market segmentation and financial strategies.
Experience the culture
Experience our corporate culture during the early years of your tertiary education. Our vacation programmes give you an insight into Investec, the CA Programme, and banking. You’ll have the opportunity to get to know us, ask questions, speak to CA Programme alumni and current trainees, and find out whether Investec is the right fit for you.
Doing good
Our CSI initiative has been initiated, coordinated and managed by CA trainees (current and former).
At Investec we believe that self-development is not just about what you learn on our programme, but also about what you give back to society.
We use our time, energy and skills rather than funding to support identified organizations. Today our dedicated CSI committee comprises CA trainees and alumni. If you join the Investec CA Programme, you’ll visit a charity we support; will get information on our CSI projects and will have an opportunity to get involved in a direct, personal way.

CA Programme
To meet the SAICA requirements for the Investec CA Programme route to qualification, you’ll be required to complete two compulsory skills, three mandatory electives and two skills at a residual level:
Broaden your experience
Six-monthly rotations to different business units, mainly in Johannesburg and Cape Town, allow you to experience multiple facets of the business and learn from experts in each area. This experience comprises on-the-job training and educational simulations.
Gain international exposure
To give you the opportunity to work in global markets, you have the option to work in one of our international offices in London or Sydney for six months during the first or second year of your training contract.
Route to CA

Route to CA
This is a question that many aspiring CAs face. Your choice can affect the direction your career takes.
To qualify as a CA, there are two main routes: the traditional auditing route or the more recent financial management option. Both enable you to qualify as a Chartered Accountant. The difference lies in which one best suits your career plans.
Auditing
If you are interested in public practice, specialising in areas such as auditing and tax, then you should consider doing your training contract at an accounting firm. The auditing route separates you from the businesses you serve, but exposes you to different clients.
Financial Management
This route gives you a broad range of career options and your training is completed in a commercial environment. You are placed inside the company you work for, and are presented with all the challenges of building and running a successful business – in industries from banking and insurance to manufacturing and mining.
If the financial management route interests you, then consider Investec.
Investec Pathfinder Programme
Investec
What is Pathfinder?
Pathfinder is a 5-day banking simulation that will immerse you in the banking environment. Under the guidance of an international expert in finance, you will get to put theory into practice and experience managing a bank over four quarters, whilst gaining insight into the culture and dynamics of Investec and the CA Programme.
To give you a well rounded, comprehensive understanding of banking, you’ll also attend presentations by experienced Investec employees from different business units and network with the CA Programme team and fellow trainees.
Who we look for:
- Undergraduate students (3rd year and above) studying towards a CA degree at a SAICA accredited university
- South Africa citizens*
- Academically talented, ambitious self-starters
*Investec wishes to encourage and promote South Africans to further their studies and qualifications in the hope that they will contribute significantly to the economic development of the country and to fully participate in the broader South African society. Pathfinder gives you the opportunity to:

What to Expect
Investec
What to Expect
During your three-year contract you are regarded as an Investec staff member. This status brings with it both rewards and responsibilities.
The Rewards
Executive sponsorship
Top management is committed to nurturing exceptional talent. So you can expect total support from those around you and one-on-one time with some of the legends of banking. They’ll be there to guide you, as long as you’re willing to grab the opportunity with both hands.
Freedom to discover your own path
Investec has a flat, non-hierarchical management structure that gives you the space to grow if you accept the challenge. In this environment your creativity, initiative and tenacity are always recognised and rewarded.
Employee status
You enjoy all the same benefits as a full-time employee. This includes the company’s provident fund, medical aid, group life, disability and accident insurance. These benefits further extend to salary increases, bonuses and share allocations.
The Responsibilities
Meeting the challenge
Investec offers you a challenging environment in which you will work independently, as well as in teams. With a hunger to learn and a drive to excel you will work out the ‘how’ of completing allocated tasks. You’ll need to rely on your own wits and initiative to meet the challenge.
Sharing success
At Investec, success is not achieved by individuals. Our organisation is driven by individuals collaborating across and within business units. You need to be a team player, and work equally well on your own.
