What You Will Do

  • Participate in and provide support to the team for day-to-day O&M works, water quality monitoring activities, and site safety activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation, management and streamlining of documents required for O&M works and activities (e.g. work instructions, risk assessments, etc.).
  • Assist in the preparation of HSE materials and documents.
  • Assist in the collection of plant process data for understanding and analysis of plant performance/water quality trends.
  • Identify areas for improvement to O&M processes and determine technical feasibility of potential plant/workflow enhancement projects.
  • Conduct research and liaise with various stakeholders in potential areas for future business growth in the water services industry, such as emerging water treatment technologies.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as delegated by the MEDP O&M team. 

Learning Outcome:

  • Understand business and industry trends relating to the water sector.
  • Understand process design documents including Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), O&M Manuals, and related documents.
  • Expose budding engineers to the work environment of a desalination plant and introduce them to key activities undertaken by the O&M team.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the operating principles of a desalination plant.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and control & instrumentation maintenance requirements of a desalination plant (including preventive and corrective maintenance works).
  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safety to a business (including safety leading and lagging indicators).
  • Identify key process parameters affecting individual system and overall plant performance.
  • Explore potential opportunities and initiatives for plant improvement and optimization (in the areas of safety, plant process, work procedures, etc.).
  • Appreciate the interactions between different departments to enable smooth operations of a desalination plant. 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • Possess basic understanding in process engineering.
  • Possess strong interest in process engineering and related disciplines applied in a process plant environment.
