The Programme 

To perform the cash equity trading function thereby maximizing commission revenue, ratings and market share in achievement of Nedbank's strategic objectives. To manage risks, generate revenue and engage with internal and external stakeholders in order to support and achieve the Global Markets strategy. 

What You Will Do 

  • Generate revenue from trading activities and achieve profit and loss targets through contracting with Sales Traders, showing flow and trading ideas. 
  • Manage the risk and pricing appropriately by being aware of underlying liquidity and position management. 
  • Build internal and external stakeholder relationships by demonstrating knowledge, providing market research information and expert opinion. 
  • Ensure stakeholder expectations are met by providing advice, formulating, participating and executing on appropriate strategies. 
  • Ensure risk is neutralized or eliminated through optimal hedging at the best price and ensuring the availability of plans or responses for every scenario. 
  • Enhance operational efficiencies and strategies by assisting in continuously reviewing and improving business, technical, and operating processes, systems, and workflows. 
  • Support the advancement of collaborative solutions through interdivisional coordination, cross-selling, idea generation/innovation, convergence, and client alignment to realize the synergies within the relevant product from different divisions within Nedbank. 
  • Manage risk, compliance, and operational processes by operating within the market risk policy, defined regulatory & statutory requirements. 
  • Manage personal growth and development.
  • Support the Nedbank culture that promotes ethical practices, client centricity, and individual integrity. 

Required Skills and Abilities 

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree. 
  • Quantitative Post-Graduate Degree (STEM). 
  • Applicable market and regulatory qualifications (RPE, ACI and JSE Traders Exam). 
  • 1-3 years trading experience on a market making cash equities desk. 
  • Trading systems. 
  • MS Office. 
  • Strong analytical skills. 
  • Business Acumen. 
  • Principles of financial management. 
  • Relevant financial market knowledge. 
  • Relevant regulatory knowledge. 
  • Financial product knowledge.
