The Programme

If using your knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to make the banking world better gets you excited and fires you up, this internship is made for you!

[email protected] is a structured credit-bearing internship (16 or 24 Weeks) that is custom designed for students from the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  

In [email protected], you will experience two (not only one!) business attachments through which you will learn how the Bank leverages data and technology to build business insights and digital solutions to solve business issues for OCBC Bank.

Apply during the specified period and shortlisted candidates will be notified. Selected candidates will be invited to a Hackathon Day, a full day assessment as part of the final selection process.

[email protected] contributes to credit-based internships that is required as part of your course. 

By joining [email protected], you will: 

  • Experience two business attachments in one internship period.
  • Be mentored by your direct manager and have the opportunity to work on departments’ projects.
  • Be able to fulfil your graduation requirements through this credit-based internship.
  • Apply theoretical learning to real world banking project. 

What You Will Do

Track - Analytics:

In this track, you will perform data analysis, apply data science, programming theories and concepts using real banking data to facilitate daily job function as well as drive business insights.  

Rotations for Analytics:

Code 001 - COO Office – GCAD and Global Consumer Financial Services – Frank:

COO Office – GCAD:

Interns will be involved in activities in the analytics & Data engineering teams. Interns will be involved in end to end of projects including access to anonymized production data.

  • Data engineering - Supporting creation of data pipelines & using Python & ML to build smart process solutions to help automate manual processing work in the bank.
  • Financial crime - Use analytics & ML techniques to analyze customer data and identify potentially anomalous activity that highlights potential risk/fraud or money laundering activities.
  • Analytics - Analyse data to identify cross-sell opportunities, execute these campaigns across channels and measure the response. 

Global Consumer Financial Services – Frank:

The role of the Digital Product Management Intern is to support the delivery of digital products and features against defined business goals.

  • Eliciting customer needs and translating them into user stories.
  • Developing wireframes as part of product design to illustrate customer journey.
  • Assisting with management and prioritizing of evolving product backlog.
  • Support development stages including testing, reviews, and sprints.
  • Providing product management support to track progress and coordinate amongst stakeholders. 

Code 002 - Group Operations and Technology – Card Operations and Group Risk Management - RPM (IRA): 

Group Operations and Technology – Card Operations:

  • Conduct data analytics to predict customer spending patterns, potential adoption rate of new products and utilization of channels.
  • Implement suitable machine learning algorithms to highlight potential customer churn based on identified risk events.
  • Propose suitable approach to engage customers whilst adhering to MAS guidelines.
  • Ad-hoc project enhancements. 

Group Risk Management – RPM (IRM):

  • He/she will have the opportunity to be involved in the department’s digitalization and infrastructure enhancement initiatives.  This could include data analytics focusing on acquisition and aggregation of credit data across OCBC Group for internal management and external reporting. 
  • The intern could also be involved in the coding and/or development of models to quantify credit risks using advanced platforms and methodologies.
  • The role provides opportunity for the intern to apply his/her technical skill sets within an actual business environment to solve real-life challenges and at the same time gain knowledge and insights into credit portfolio analytics and reporting. 

Code 003 - Group Legal and Regulatory Compliance – Group Financial Crime Compliance and Group Operations and Technology – IT PMO: 

Group Legal and Regulatory Compliance - Group Financial Crime Compliance:

  • The intern will review the Bank's AML/CFT statistical data and deploy analytics to interpret significant trends and patterns of concern.
  • The intern will be involved in the enhancement of visualization dashboards to present AML/CFT information and key analytical insights to the Bank's management.
  • The intern will participate in the development of data analytics solutions to support the Bank's ongoing work on risk analysis and detection.
  • The intern will be assigned/ involved in other digital process improvement projects, as needed. 

Group Operations and Technology – IT PMO:

  • Analyse project delivery information, trends, anomalies and behaviors for risk and control management reporting.
  • Perform project portfolio analysis in the forms of comprehensive reports and dashboards for reporting to stakeholders and tracking of relevant performance metrics including project financials and capital expenditures.
  • Perform comparative analysis to capture trends and behaviors of performance over the years down to project detail level to establish targets to be achieved.
  • Work with respective project delivery teams to translate analysis requirements into reports and dashboards.
  • Provide training to end users on new reports and dashboards. 

Code 004 - Group Operations and Technology – Consumer Loan and Global Consumer and Financial Services – R&P (RSM): 

Group Operations and Technology – Consumer Loan:

  • The intern will be part of a project team to perform data analysis on Mortgage Loans such as customer segmentation, data quality checks and anomaly detection.
  • The intern will be exposed to the full cycle of the CRISP-DM methodology from business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modelling, evaluation through deployment.
  • The intern will be part of a project team to build the department's MIS/ Reporting Dashboard.   The intern will also be tasked to build and maintain the department's dashboards and also to automate monthly/ ad-hoc reports.
  • He/she will also be assigned/ involved in other digital, process improvement, ad-hoc projects/ assignments.

Global Consumer and Financial Services – R&P (RSM):

  • The intern will be part of the team to build the team's surveillance dashboard to identify anomalies and to innovate and build models with stronger detection capabilities.
  • He/she will be exposed to full cycle of project phase, from scoping of project, gathering requirements, design, coding & implementation, UAT and documentation. 

Code 005 - Global Consumer Financial Services – Group Marketing and OSPL – Futures, FX and CFD (Digital Business) and Global Consumer Financial Services – Digital Transformation: 

Please note that you will be assigned to any of these 2 departments

Global Consumer Financial Services – Group Marketing:

  • Perform Qualitative & Quantitative analysis using marketing tools and digital analytics to track performance of campaigns, build reporting dashboards.
  • Support projects running across campaign automation work stream. scope covers EDM, SMS and Push Notification channels.

OSPL – Futures, FX and CFD (Digital Business):

Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to support Digital Delivery Managers in projects objectives such as: 

  • Participate in requirements gathering for system enhancement.
  • Assist in preparing requirements document, test plan and UAT support.
  • Assist in firm-wide audit, regulatory and mandatory projects.
  • Coordinate regular internal meetings and meetings with key business partners to discuss key topics and resolve issues.
  • Prepare slides for departmental meetings.
  • Work and coordinate with internal stakeholders such as Operations, IT, Risk Management or Finance and external vendors to service business’ needs.
  • Support the planning & execution of a marketing campaign for a product launch.
  • Work with marketing staff to improve and build on existing digital marketing efforts.
  • Write copy for product & platform webpages, social media posts, promotional email and other marketing collaterals. 

Global Consumer Financial Services – Digital Transformation:

  • To provide support to the Product Owner in delivering the user stories and the launch of the features on branch transformation. 

Code 006 - Group Risk Management – Credit Risk Modelling and Global Consumer Financial Services – Digital Business: 

Group Risk Management – Credit Risk Modelling:

Selected candidates will work with existing team members of the Bank's Credit Risk Modelling team in developing / implementing credit risk models. 

Interns will develop:

  • Insights on how to analyze portfolios for credit risk assessment in Banks.
  • Develop hands-on skills in handling large volumes of data in a structured manner.
  • Perform quantitative analysis.
  • Develop communication skills in structuring and presenting technical information. 

Global Consumer Financial Services – Digital Business:

To provide support to the Product Owner in delivering the user stories and the launch of the features on the mobile app. 

Code 007 - Group Operations and Technology – GTS (Technology Risk Management) and Global Consumer Financial Services – Digital Business: 

Group Operations and Technology – GTS (Technology Risk Management):

  • The intern will be part of a project team to build the department's MIS/Reporting Dashboard.
  • He/she will be exposed to full cycle of project phase, from scoping of project, gathering requirements, design, coding & implementation, UAT and documentation.
  • He/she will also be assigned/involved in other digital, process improvement, ad-hoc projects/assignments. 

Would gain knowledge in the following areas:

  • Gain understanding and working knowledge of MS office Suite.
  • Gain Knowledge of scripting and automation of small tasks.
  • Assist in PowerPoint presentation and pickup presentation skills.
  • Assist with updating documentation work.
  • Will be able to learn server build skills. 

Global Consumer Financial Services – Digital Business:

To provide support to the Product Owner in delivering the user stories and the launch of the features on the mobile app.

Required Skills and Abilities

We seek undergraduates in a tertiary institution from a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics faculty.

Other qualities that will put you in strong standing for the programme include:

  • Self-motivated team player who is able to problem solve, code and design.
  • Adaptable, creative and possess good interpersonal skills.
