“When deciding on a career path the most important thing to think about is how much learning opportunity there will be.”
I studied internationally but made the decision to return to my home country to begin my career. Being close to my family was important to me. Banking wasn’t my first career choice; I explored other industries and did an internship at an oil company.
When deciding on a career path the most important thing to think about is how much learning opportunity there will be. I was also really curious about how banks actually worked as the wheels of the economy.
Standard Chartered’s culture, and what they do within the community, is refreshing in this industry.
Since joining Standard Chartered, I’ve worked across a number of different projects. I’ve been involved in the event launch for the Breeze programme, our mobile baking app, as well as departmental process improvements and local IT projects. There’s never a dull moment!

“The decision to explore banking, which was out of my comfort zone, was one of the hardest and scariest decisions I have had to make.”
Before working in financial services, I had experience in Marketing. The decision to explore banking, which was out of my comfort zone, was one of the hardest and scariest decisions I have had to make.
I spoke to my friends who were in the banking industry. They told me that there is more to banking than just branches and bankers. It definitely opened up my eyes to the possibilities that can be explored.
Choosing to apply for Standard Chartered felt right. I am passionate when it comes to helping people with disabilities. It came naturally for me as I grew up with my sister who has cerebral palsy. Therefore Standard Chartered’s involvement in CSR activities was one of the major attractions for me.
I choose the GTO programme because I believe that in order to fully understand roles, you need to start from the operations side, by understanding what happens behind the scenes. I recently spent three months in Indonesia working together with the team to improve the communication in GTO Indonesia and data clean up which was a great experience.
